Joan M. (Hazlett) Knepp

Joan M. (Hazlett) Knepp, 84, of 82 Second Street, Belleville, passed away at 3:36 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 at William Penn Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewistown.


Born April 4, 1937 in Allensville, she was a daughter of the late Herbert F. and Goldie (Harshbarger) Hazlett. On September 12, 1958, she married Cecil M. Knepp. He survives at their home.

Also surviving are: her children, Debra S. Hoover & significant other, Joseph Scalise, of Indiana, PA; Jeffrey L. Knepp & wife Susan E., of Lewistown; grandchildren, Danielle Hoover & fiance Adam Judeh, of Philadelphia; Christopher Hoover & wife Becca, of Fredericksburg, VA; Nicholas Knepp & fiance Brittany and their children Chase Knepp & Karter Kerstetter, of Thompsontown; and Benjamin Knepp of State College; as well as two sisters, Carol Wilson & husband Ronald, of Reedsville; and Mary Ellen Rough & husband Elwood, of Lima, OH.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Hazlett.

Joan graduated from Menno-Union High School in 1955. She attended Geisinger School of Nursing in Danville, PA where she obtained her RN. In 1958, she began working at Lewistown Hospital and worked there for over a span of 25 years. She and her husband owned & operated Knepp’s Dairyette & Colonial Dining Room in Belleville in the 60’s.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter months. They also traveled to Hawaii and Ireland and took many camping trips as a family.

Her graveside service will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Belleville with Pastor Rosalie Smith officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville.
