Michael J. Shaffer

Michael J. Shaffer, 70, of 99 Farm View Drive, Allensville, passed away at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.


Born July 8, 1950, in York City, PA, he was a son of the late Russell S. and Leona Mae (Freed) Shaffer. On Sept. 11, 1976, he married Bonnie L. (Duling) Shaffer. She resides at their home. Along with his wife, he is also survived by, his sons, Adam Brandon Shaffer & wife Crystal of Camp Hill, & Philip Ashley Shaffer, of Pottsville, PA, as well as his siblings, Joan Lindecamp, Barbara Doran, Susan Steinour & husband Bill, Deborah Maas & husband Harold, Dennis Shaffer & wife Dona, Robert Shaffer & wife Debbie, Thomas Shaffer, Steven Shaffer & wife Holly, and David Shaffer & wife Mary Lynn Buchanan Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Scott Anthony Shaffer.

Michael graduated from Susquehannock High School. He then attended York College for a year. In 1971, he joined the U. S. Army and served for three years during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 175th RRSS, a member of the Spooks & Spies, and worked with the Army Security Agency. Following his time in the Army, he then went to work at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of the VFW Post #5935, Belleville. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects, he would build the furniture and his wife would finish it.

His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Henderson Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastor Doug Pierce officiating. His family will receive friends during the viewing time from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
