Naomi M. Hartzler

August 18, 1926 - December 18, 2020




Naomi M. Hartzler, 94, passed away peacefully at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2020.


She was born on Aug. 18, 1926 in Allensville.

She is proceded in death by her father Jesse B. Hartzler, and mother Sadie M. (Cutman) Hartzler. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth E. King on March 17, 2007.

She is survived by her sister, Lena R. Cashman of Duncansville.

She is survived by four nieces, Vera D. Hanson & husband Carl of Harrisonburg, VA; Vernane Stutzman & husband Dick of Hermitage, TN; Linda Reigh & husband Rich of Duncansville, PA; and Ruth E. Metzler & husband James of McVeytown, PA, and by two nephews, Sanford King & wife Mildred of Belleville and Richard Cashman & wife Susie of Three Springs, PA. Naomi really appreciated her nieces and nephews, their spouses and families. She appreciated the friendship of her “adopted” brother and sister, Ron & Nancy Strickler.

She attended King Country School in Belleville, then finished grade school in Allensville through eighth grade. After graduating she went right to work doing private duty work for a number of homes in the area. Naomi was a nanny/hired girl for the Porter Brown family full time and part time from 1946-1949, which was when she earned her drivers license. In 1948, she worked at the Welsh Mountain Home in New Holland for six weeks. Following that she went to work at the Allensville Garment Factory for 18 years. She then became employed at Valley View Haven in 1968, where she remained until her retirement in 1998, at which time she was then employed part-time.

Since her retirement, Naomi was actively volunteering at Valley View Haven as well as with the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, leading the Peppy Classes for six years. She was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church, a former member of the Hannah’s Helpers Sunday school class, a former member of the Ladies sewing circle, and she was also a Sunday school teacher in the primary department at Otelia Mennonite Church in Mount Union for a number of years. She also attended Valley View Haven Chapel. She enjoyed sending cards to encourage other people.

Her graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery with Pastor Sherman Stoltzfus officiating.
