Reed Thomas “Tom” Henderson

September 22, 1940 - August 21, 2020

Reed Thomas “Tom” Henderson, 79, of Duncansville, passed away Friday evening at his home.


He was born Sept. 22, 1940, in Sproul, he was the oldest son of the late Charles and Edith (Black) Henderson. On June 8, 1968, he married Dorothy (Frye) Henderson. She resides at their home.

Surviving are his wife, his four children, Randy T. Henderson, of Lakemont, Elizabeth Myers and husband, Ben, of Manchester, Reed T. Henderson and wife, April, of Belleville, and Nicole Henderson and husband, Michael Smith, of Duncansville; five grandchildren, Nichole, Eric, Tristan, Kaden and Elijah; two great-grandsons, Jackson and Reid; as well as a brother, Wayne Henderson and wife, Elissa, of Carlisle.

Tom worked in business all his life. He was a former manager of the Cove Shoe Company, and became VP of the HH Brown Shoe Co. when they bought the facility. As part of his job, he travelled extensively to places such as Puerto Rico, Columbia, Mexico, China & India. He later purchased two printing companies that he consolidated into Henderson Printing and Kunz Business Products, where he served as President and CEO. In 1988, Tom was presented with Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contribution to the community from the Blair, Bedford, Central Labor Council.

Tom was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren in Williamsburg where he previously served on the church board and printed their monthly newsletter. Upon he & his wife relocating to the Hollidaysburg/Duncansville area, they began attending the Hicks United Methodist Church in Duncansville.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He loved football and was a fan of PSU and the Steelers. Another passion was archery and rifle hunting, and he travelled to the western states and Canada in pursuit of elk, deer & bear. He also enjoyed precision shooting competitions and was a member of the International Benchrest Shooters Assoc., where he won several awards for his skill and precision. His family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

A funeral service will be held privately, with Pastor Rich Morris officiating.

Interment will follow at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the American Cancer Society, 1375 Martin St., Suite 206, State College, PA 16803 or to the American Heart Assoc., Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Ave., Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Arrangements are under the care of Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, PA.
