May 17, 1961 - September 5, 2023
Richard L. “Rick” Byler, 62, of 12960 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, Pa., passed away on Sept. 5, 2023.
He was born on May 17, 1961 in Lewistown to David and Sadie Byler of Belleville. On Jan. 7, 1995, he married Louise I. (Westerman) Byler, who survives.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Isaac J. Byler and Alexander J. Byler, both at home; a brother David J. Byler and wife Kathy of Belleville; a sister Joanne Hetrick of Burnham; father-in-law and mother-in-law Melvin and Emma Westerman of Pine Grove Mills; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Melissa and Matthew McErlain of Blackwood, N.J. and Elliott and Noriko Westerman of Issaquah, Wash.
Rick graduated from Belleville Mennonite School in 1979 and had also attended Kishacoquillas High School. He was a farmer and worked for the last several years for the Spruce Creek Rod and Gun Club.
He was a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where he taught children’s Sunday school, which was the highlight of his week. He enjoyed anything that allowed him to spend time with his family, including hunting and watching sports with his sons. One thing he was passionate about was enabling any child the opportunity to come to know Jesus, even if it meant physically driving them to church activities. He was a Godly man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Locust Grove Mennonite Church. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at the church with Ivan Yoder and Neil Renno officiating. The burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Central Pennsylvania Clinic, P.O. Box 5806, Belleville, PA 17004
Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, 3813 West Main Street, Belleville. Online condolences can be made to: www.hendersonfuneralhomes.net.
Rick was a man of God. I am deeply saddened for his family, but joyful he is in heaven with Jesus. My prayers are with his wife and two sons, that God would provide true peace and comfort for them. Tanya McGhee
